The Gremio football club from Porto Alegre was excluded from the Copa do Brasil due to racist insults directed at Santos' goalkeeper, Araña, by some fans during a match. The Brazilian sports justice imposed a fine of over $22,000 on the club, and the identified fans were banned from stadiums for 720 days. Additionally, the match referee and assistants were suspended for 90 days for not addressing the goalkeeper's complaints. This punishment is considered unprecedented in Latin America. Gremio, led by former national coach Luis Felipe Scolari, intends to appeal the decision.
