VOICED : Rwanda taps explosive methane lake for electricity supply

Lake Kivu, located between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, contains dangerous dissolved gases like carbon dioxide and methane. A disturbance could cause a catastrophic explosion, threatening millions. The Kivu Watt project aims to extract these gases to produce energy, potentially doubling Rwanda's electricity capacity. While some villagers report a decline in fish harvests, the project is bringing much-needed electricity to rural areas. With only 18% of Rwandans having electricity access, connecting to the national grid is a priority. The project hopes to make a positive impact without causing harm.
