VOICED: Skate fans bring new sport to Uganda

Ugandan youths, inspired by skateboarding tricks seen on TV, built East Africa's first skate park in Kampala. Led by Jackson Mubiru, they raised funds and constructed the park themselves. The skate park serves as a safe haven for teenagers, offering an escape from drugs and crime while nurturing dreams of becoming professional skateboarders. The sport has positively impacted youth behavior and created a structured community. However, the future of Uganda's skate culture relies on external support, as the Uganda Skate Union seeks sponsors to expand the sport nationwide.
