In rural southwest Afghanistan, US Marines face challenges training local officers who struggle with classroom environments and low motivation due to suspected drug use and low pay. Some training aspects, like martial arts, are successful, but cultural differences undermine command authority. Despite these issues, recruits remain enthusiastic, aspiring to be like American heroes. However, without more rigorous training, reliance on foreign troops will continue.
