Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, a prominent Malian politician, opposed the dictatorship of Gen Moussa Traore and rose through political ranks to become Prime Minister in 1994. Despite creating his own political party, he failed to win the presidency in 2002 and 2007 but aimed for victory in 2013, promising security after a 2012 coup and insurgency. Known as a strongman, Keita faced criticism for inaction during the coup and alleged ties to Islamic groups. While his past in France earned him a 'party animal' label, he now emphasizes his religious credentials, reciting Koranic verses in speeches.
