A Voyage to Palestine 1

A group of 1,200 Jewish immigrants, including 160 expectant mothers, attempted to reach Palestine but were turned back at Haifa Bay. They endured overcrowding and a lack of water on their 400-ton vessel. Instead of reaching Palestine, they were redirected to Cyprus for internment, except for 60 hospital cases. The transfer to Cyprus-bound transport was peaceful. This was the first ship to attempt running the blockade since the new British internment policy on Cyprus. In desperation, some drank seawater.
