Sinovac, a Chinese laboratory, has doubled its vaccine production capacity by completing a third production line, allowing it to produce 2 billion doses annually. The CoronaVac vaccine, approved by Beijing, requires two doses per patient. Studies in Brazil show it is 50% effective in preventing infection and 80% effective in avoiding medical intervention. Sinovac has distributed 200 million doses to over 20 countries and received approval to market in more than 30 nations. The WHO has deemed Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines safe and effective but requires more data on elderly and those with pre-existing conditions before broader recommendations.
