During a visit to Santiago, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chilean President Michel Bachelet agreed to strengthen their Free Trade Agreement. Xi proposed creating a Pacific free trade zone following the U.S. decision to exit the Trans-Pacific Partnership. They plan to deepen the China-Chile trade agreement, focusing on investment and innovation. China is Chile's top trading partner, and Chile is a major destination for Chinese exports in Latin America. Xi also announced a program to train 500 journalists in Latin American topics to enhance regional ties.
