Hungary has closed its border with Serbia, blocking migrants and arresting those damaging the border fence. New laws impose prison sentences for such actions. Hungary is also enhancing security and plans to build a new fence along the Romanian border. Other European countries, including Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland, are considering similar border closures amid the refugee crisis. Despite the influx of refugees, mainly from Syria, the EU has failed to implement mandatory quotas for accepting additional refugees, and the flow of people seeking a better life in Europe continues.
