Dr. Hillerman, known as the father of modern vaccines, developed over 40 vaccines, including those for measles and hepatitis. He served as an advisor to the WHO and received the Distinguished Service Medal for his influenza research. After retiring as senior VP of Merck Research Labs, he was awarded the National Medal of Science. His vaccines save millions of lives annually.
