Amelia Earhart begins her attempt at a flight around the world in 1937

Amelia Earhart embarked on her last flight with navigator Fred Noonan, leaving behind her husband, George Palmer Putnam. They flew the Lockheed Electra, known as the Flying Laboratory, on a round-the-world trip. The mission aimed to collect weather data for a class she planned to teach at Purdue University.
