UI Scootide is the largest known star in the Milky Way Galaxy, located in the Scutum constellation. It was first catalogued in 1860 and later named UI Scootide. Despite its massive size, it is not visible to the naked eye due to its distance of 9,500 light years from Earth. The star is a red supergiant, 30 times the mass of the sun, with a radius over 1,700 times greater. UI Scootide is close to the supermassive black hole at the galactic center and is undergoing stellar evolution, eventually leading to a core-collapse supernova.
