Japan Extends Coronavirus State Of Emergency Nationwide

Japan announced an emergency order on April 7th, initially affecting 56 million people in seven prefectures, including Tokyo and Osaka. The order, effective until May 6th, covers the Golden Week holiday, a major travel period. It does not enforce a lockdown but allows governors to encourage social distancing and request school and business closures. Public transit and essential services remain operational. The government plans a one-time cash payout of nearly $1000 to all citizens.
