Ecuador experienced a strong aftershock following a major earthquake. The aftershock, with a magnitude of 6, had its epicenter near Bahía de Caraqués and Tosagua. A personal account describes the experience of the tremor. Since the initial 7.8 magnitude earthquake, over 500 aftershocks have occurred. The disaster has resulted in 587 deaths, including 29 foreigners, 5,733 injuries, and over 20,000 displaced individuals.
