The Boboli Gardens, located behind the Pity Palace in Florence, are a prime example of 16th-century Italian garden design. Originally laid out for Elianoro di Toledo, the gardens feature a blend of classical and Renaissance elements, including statues, fountains, and grottos. The gardens were developed by Niccolo Tribolo and later expanded by Bartolo Mayo Amanatti and Giorgio Visari. Notable features include the Fountain of Neptune and the Giardino del Cavalieri. The gardens lack a natural water source, so an elaborate irrigation system was constructed. The Lorraine family added further elements in the 18th century, such as the Green Coffee House and the Lemon House.
