ETA made landfall in the Florida Keys on Sunday night. The US National Hurricane Center downgraded initial warnings but still cautioned about strong winds, heavy rains, and dangerous storm surges. Hurricane warnings for South Florida were lifted, replaced by tropical storm warnings for the Keys and Florida Bay, while the west coast remained under alert. Before reaching the US, ETA crossed Cuba with sustained winds of 95 km/h, causing no significant damage. Previously, ETA struck Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane, weakening to a tropical depression but causing deadly floods and destruction in Central America and southern Mexico.
