This discovery was made while investigating immune cells for bacterial infections. The T cells interact with a protein called MR1, which is present on all cells, to detect cancer. Although promising results were seen in mice, human trials are needed to confirm effectiveness. This could lead to a universal cancer treatment, simplifying current therapies that require specific targeting for different cancer types.
