1944: PHILIPPINES CAMPAIGN

The enemy fleet was detected entering the civilian sea, prompting an immediate attack by US planes. Around 250 US aircraft engaged the enemy, with successive waves maintaining pressure. By 3:30, the Japanese forces retreated after several of their warships were hit. Survivors from the Super battleship Masashi, sunk by US air action, were rescued by other enemy ships.
