VOICED : Rivera y Kahlo y el arte pop americano

In 1930, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo traveled to California for a mural commission, marking an important period in Rivera's career as he sought to paint in a rapidly growing North America. Their experiences in the US are part of the 'Diego Pop Frida Pop' exhibition, which positions them as precursors to pop art. Curator Juan Coronel Rivera highlights the iconic American elements in their work that predate pop art's themes. During their time in the US, Rivera and Kahlo mingled with the elite, but their relationship with the country soured after Rivera included Vladimir Lenin in a mural commissioned by John Rockefeller.
