Brahmagupta, an influential Indian mathematician and astronomer, was born around 598 A.D. He made significant contributions to mathematics, particularly in defining zero as a number. His first book, Brahmasphutasiddhanta, combined existing knowledge with his original ideas, including rules for arithmetic with zero and negative numbers. Brahmagupta also explored division by zero, a complex issue unresolved until later. His work in geometry led to Brahmagupta's theorem. Later, he moved to Ujjain, a major astronomy center, and wrote Khandakhadyaka, a practical astronomy manual. Brahmagupta's legacy as a pioneering mathematician endures.
