Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, recounts his betrayal by his brother Antonio and Alonso, the King of Naples. Using magic, Prospero creates a storm that shipwrecks his enemies on his island. As the passengers are separated, plots of power and rebellion unfold. Ferdinand meets Miranda, and they fall in love. Meanwhile, Caliban conspires to overthrow Prospero. Eventually, Alonso and others confront their guilt and seek forgiveness. Prospero forgives them, frees Ariel, and they all return to Milan, wiser and reconciled.
