Dorothy, along with Toto and the Scarecrow, embarks on a journey to find water and encounters the Tin Woodman, who has been rusted in place for a year. After helping him regain movement by oiling his joints, the Tin Woodman shares his story of how he lost his heart due to a curse by the Wicked Witch. He decides to join Dorothy and the Scarecrow on their journey to the Emerald City to ask the Great Oz for a heart. Along the way, they discuss the merits of having a heart versus having brains, each expressing their desires and motivations.
