Nouns and Verbs is a Grade 3 English worksheet that helps students distinguish between nouns and verbs in words and complete sentences. Students answer 20 questions, including 18 multiple-choice items and 2 multiple-select items. They identify nouns such as people, places, and things; locate nouns in sentences; select all nouns in a sentence; identify action verbs; and classify individual words or names as nouns or verbs. The worksheet also asks students to use verbs to describe actions shown by people, reinforcing the connection between verbs and what someone is doing. It is useful for introducing or reviewing basic parts of speech through short, accessible examples involving familiar people, places, objects, and actions. This free printable worksheet includes a complete answer key for efficient checking and feedback.

This Grade 3 English worksheet builds students’ ability to identify nouns and verbs in isolation and in complete sentences. Its 20 questions use 18 multiple-choice items and 2 multiple-select items to have students recognize nouns such as people, places, and things, find nouns in sentences, identify action verbs, classify words as nouns or verbs, and choose verbs that describe pictured actions.
Begin by modeling how to find a noun and an action verb in a simple sentence, such as identifying the person, place, or thing and then asking what action occurs. Work through one of the worksheet’s sentence-identification items together, emphasizing that multiple-select questions may have more than one noun. Then have students complete the verb, noun-or-verb classification, and action-description questions independently or with a partner.
Students may choose a pronoun, such as “he” or “us,” instead of the noun it represents, or overlook a second noun in sentences such as “My little brother plays in the sand.” They may also confuse action nouns or verbs, such as treating “swinging” as a noun, or select only one answer on a multiple-select item when the sentence contains two nouns.
The Nouns and Verbs worksheet is available as a printable PDF and as a digital quiz on Wayground. It includes a complete answer key, and printable submissions can be graded by scanning student work with the Wayground for Teachers app. The printable format also gives schools an option for reducing screen time.
Because this worksheet uses short word and sentence items, you can adjust font spacing and font size to make the questions easier to scan, select a dyslexia-friendly font, or translate the worksheet into another language. These options are available under the worksheet’s Advanced Settings and can support access to the noun-identification, verb-identification, and noun-or-verb classification items.
