Mathematics
This free printable mathematics worksheet is designed for Grades 9–12 students who are learning to apply the order of operations to numerical expressions and integer calculations. It uses PEMDAS questions, including identifying what the letters represent, choosing the first operation to complete, evaluating expressions with grouping symbols and exponents, and finding an error in an incorrectly solved expression. The 20-question worksheet combines 19 multiple-choice items with one matching activity. Students also practise adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers, including operations with negative signs and negative factors. The varied format checks both procedural accuracy and understanding of why an operation comes first. A complete answer key is included, making this free printable worksheet useful for guided practice, independent work, review, or assessment.

This Grade 9–12 mathematics worksheet helps students apply PEMDAS to expressions with parentheses, exponents, and multiple operations, including deciding which operation comes first. Its 19 multiple-choice questions and one matching activity also build fluency with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers, while the error-analysis item asks students to recognize an incorrect operation sequence.
Introduce PEMDAS by having students name the operation represented by each letter, then model how to identify the first operation in an expression before calculating. Work through one expression with grouping symbols and exponents and one integer example aloud, emphasizing that multiplication and division are handled from left to right, as are addition and subtraction. Students can then complete the multiple-choice items and explain their reasoning for the error-analysis and matching questions.
Watch for students performing addition before subtraction simply because addition appears earlier in PEMDAS, rather than working from left to right when those operations have equal priority. They may also ignore parentheses or exponents, choose the wrong first operation, or confuse the signs in expressions such as subtracting a negative. In the matching section, check that students apply the correct sign rules to products and quotients instead of relying only on the sign of one factor.
Wayground provides this worksheet as a printable PDF and as a digital quiz, and it includes a complete answer key for the 19 multiple-choice questions and matching activity. You can grade printable submissions by scanning student work with the Wayground for Teachers app, or review responses through the digital quiz.
Use the worksheet’s Advanced Settings to adjust font spacing or choose a larger font size so the multi-step expressions, answer choices, and matching items are easier to read. You can also enable a dyslexia-friendly font or translate the worksheet into another language when those options support access to the PEMDAS and integer practice.
