Introduce the worksheet by modeling the difference between y for minutes after the hour and menos for minutes before the next hour. Review cuarto for 15 minutes and media for 30 minutes, then have students explain why 4:40 is “son las cinco menos veinte” before completing the multiple-choice items independently or in pairs.
Watch for students choosing the current hour instead of the next hour when using menos, such as selecting 9:05 instead of recognizing that “son las nueve menos cinco” means 8:55. Students may also confuse cuarto with media, or select 11:30 for “son las once y cuarto” instead of 11:15.
