Mexican empresario who settled on the coast of Texas. He dealt peacefully with American Indians and started the cattle industry in Texas.

American empresario who faced many challenges in creating a thriving settlement. Was helped by Austin.

He helped Stephen F. Austin receive his land grant from Mexico. He and his son Juan were Mexican Texans (tejanos) who supported the foreign colonization of Mexico.

Mexico finally gained independence from Spain in 1821 when a revolutionary leader, Iturbide, negotiated for a constitutional monarchy. Spain was busy with a civil war, so they let Mexico go, after nearly 150 years.
