Bowing is the traditional way to greet in this culture. It is insulting for people to be touched by someone with whom they are unfamiliar; so don’t pat them on the back or hug them.

As one of the largest countries in the world, child rearing in this culture is very much dependent upon class, cultural and racial diversity and socio-economic differences throughout the country. They are renowned for their love of dance and music with regular festivals taking place.

Gifts may be given to celebrate events of significance or religious occasions. This is an extremely poor country, so expensive gifts are not the norm. In fact, giving a gift that is too expensive may be viewed negatively. It may be seen as an attempt to garner influence or it may embarrass the recipient as they will not be able to match it in kind.

The family is at the center of the social structure and this culture considers it their duty and responsibility to help family members. People respect authority and look to those above them for guidance and decision-making.
