You know me as the country to visit if you want to hit gorgeous beaches, shop till you drop in outdoor markets, or want to spend time in a plethora of hipster cafes that food which will satisfy your tummy.

Just yesterday, my people went to the polls to elect a new government. One of the political groups nominated a princess as its candidate for prime minister - which her brother, the king, quickly shot down.

I am known for my delicious food - anyone for raw fish? - and unique cultural icons like samurai, sakura or cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji.

Recently, in one of my major cities, Osaka, a cluster of measles cases broke out around a Valentine's Day fair. About 20 customers and workers caught the disease.

My economy has been through many boom-and bust cycles, and a large part of my fate is intertwined with my neighbour the United States. In fact, billions of dollars of remittance is sent back to me via workers who work in the US.

I sit on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea.

I am primarily in the news because of a longstanding conflict between me and Palestine.

For many years, Jews had been migrating to this part of the world, including victims who wanted to escape the Holocaust. However, this squeezed the Arab population living there.

In 1947, the United Nations suggested splitting the land three ways: to the Jews, Arabs and for an international trusteeship, but the Arabs disagreed. War thus broke out in 1948, resulting in me controlling most of the territories.

I am the world's most populous country but, in recent years, my birth rate has been dropping. Last year, it fell to its lowest level in almost 60 years.

I am also known for sparking the trend of the Singles' Day online sales extravaganza, where big sales attract consumers every Nov 11.

However, after Singles' Day, I had a huge mess to clean up - some 160,000 tonnes of packaging waste!

For several decades, I have been the subject of an economic embargo by the United States - due to my communist roots (refer photo) and political system.

Though former US president Barack Obama agreed to a detente- and easing of strained relations - in 2014, Mr Donald Trump tightened travel and trade restrictions again.

You might have heard of one of my "exports"- singer Camila Cabello, who was born here and moved to the US when she was six.

I am the world's only carbon negative country - meaning I absorb more carbon via my forests and greenery (refer photo) than I produce.

In fact, my Constitution protects my forests - at least 60 per cent of my land must remain green.

My people measure success through a Gross National Happiness index, which priorities things like psychological well-being and good governance over the gross domestic product, something my previous King Jigme Singye Wangchuck came up with.

Who am I?

I am in Central Europe, and am the birthplace of famous names such as composer Franz Schubert (1979-1828), celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck and, unfortunately, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler (1889-1945).

I am also home to the angelic voices of one of the world's most famous children's choral groups as well as Swarovski, the manufacturer of crystal ornaments and accessories, among other things, that are exported all over the world today.

In the 1800s, the French colonised my neighbours and I, winning control after much fighting, and gave us the name of French Indochina.

I was infused with French culture - its food, language and style of building. Today, many examples of French architecture, like Hanoi Opera House and the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon are still standing.

Last month, I had two important visitors - United States President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un. They were supposed to discuss the disarming of nuclear weapons, but the talks failed.
