Players are allowed to run on the ground (lupa) and climb on objects (langit). The it can only tag players who are on the ground and not those who are on higher objects. The player who gets tagged becomes the new it and the it becomes one of the players who gets chased.

When the it or tagger is chosen, the other players run from place to place and save themselves from being tagged by holding on to a fence, a post, or any object made of wood or bamboo.

There is no limit to the number of players that can play. Players sit in a circle with the leader in the middle. Each player adopts a name of a tree or flower that is given by the leader.

It is a clapping game accompanied by a chant, upon singing the chant, the two players must clap the number that corresponds to what is counted. The one who misses the number of claps or goes beyond it gets pinched, usually on the nose or in the ear. In other variations, baby powder is wiped on the face of the loser.

After the it is determined, he/she goes around the circle and drops the handkerchief behind a person. When the person notices the handkerchief is behind their back, he or she has to pick up the handkerchief and go after the it around the circle. The it has to reach the vacant spot left by the player before the it is tagged; otherwise, the it has to take the handkerchief
