One shoe last can be used to create different shoe styles and designs.

The two sides of a shoe last are called left and right side.

The hinge is a movable joint inside the shoe last that prevents damaging the shoe when it is being removed from the last.

Used in the lasting department the features of this type of last vary according to the type of construction being

made.

A single solid shoe last without any cut or

attachments. It is usually used in making

slippers and sandals.

The last can be bent in one direction at the

hinge especially during last slipping operation

to easily remove the last from the shoe.

Usually high density polyethylene(HDPE) is

used and molded either directly to shape or

to a cast a shape

Traditionally, last are made from wood of

trees that are dense and with tight grain that

gives a smooth finish. However, wooden shoe

last is now mainly only used for sample last

or small scale production

Iron and aluminum are usually used to form

a metal last. Used for direct injected moulded

lasting.
