Are there any foreign objects?

Is there any blood, vomitus, or secretions?

Palpate a central pulse

Is there any bony deformity?

Is there any tracheal deviation or jugular venous distention?

Assess the patient's level of consciousness using AVPU

Are there open wounds or deformities of the chest?

Is there any edema?

Are breath sounds present and equal?

Is there increased work of breathing?

What are the depth, pattern, and general rate of respirations?

Is there any snoring, gurgling, or stridor?

Is there subcutaneous emphysema?

Assess the patency of prehospital IV line

What is the skin color?

Inspect and palpate the skin for color, temperature and moisture?

Are there any loose or missing teeth?

Is the tongue obstructing?

Is there symmetrical chest rise and fall?

Inspect for any uncontrolled external hemorrhage
