The students in grade 4 are working on recount writing. They are retelling the story they have read using the 5 Ws. Student A finds it challenging to organize their work.The Educational assistant provides Student A with a graphic organizer to complete their work.

Are the following examples of accommodations or modifications:

The grade 4 have a test on the provinces and territories of Canada. They are given a map of Canada to label the provinces and territories. Student A has an IEP and has a challenging in memory skills. Student A is given a Word bank of choices for answers to test questions

A student has a learning disability in reading so his teachers read math word problems aloud to him. This allows him to fully focus on the math problem, without any confusion that could emerge from his reading difficulties.

A student is given 10 math problems for homework, although the rest of the class received 20. This might be the case for a student with a math disability who takes a considerably long time to solve each problem and gets extremely frustrated during homework.

A supply teacher is teaching grade 4 for the day. Student A functions with routine and consistency. The classroom teacher will usually make student A aware if they will be away for the day. An emergency arose and this did not happen. Student A became very agitated and began to pace when they did not see the teacher in the room. Student A was provided a quiet corner to calm down and relax before beginning their work.

Student A is in kindergarten with a class of 24 students. Student A has been identified as ASD and has a Educational Assistant. The teacher uses a visual schedule in the classroom. Visual schedules allows student A to see what is coming up next and understand the sequence of activities. By using a visual schedule, student A’s routine will become more predictable and expectations will be made clear. The visual schedule benefits the whole class but more specifically student A.

Student A is a high school student in grade 10 who has a LD. Student A becomes frustrated with language based courses that require written responses such as English and History. Student A  has a SEA claim for technology. Student A uses the program Google Docs Voice Typing for speech to text.

Student A is in grade7. Student A is is a bright girl who has a learning disability and struggles to organize her instructional materials. The special education teacher helps Student A colour code her binders to help her organize the necessary materials (eg., notes, class assignments) for each class.
