British Prime Minister Winston Churchhill, President Harry Truman, and Joseph Stalin met to negotiate the terms for the end of WWII. Truman demanded free elections on eastern Europe but Stalin refused - he wanted a "buffer zone" between Germany and the USSR for protection against a future war. In the end, it was decided that Germany would be occupied by the Americans, British, French, and Soviets and be demilitarized and disarmed.
