The prince needs to avoid being hated at all costs

The government is meant to protect the rights of the people. If a government doesn’t protect their rights, the people should destroy it.

People can become divided in commonwealths (democracies), which could lead to Civil War.

There should be three branches of government; an executive, the nobility, and elected representatives

It’s difficult for a ruler to keep power in a place that has a different language and different customs from their own

Who believed that people lost their liberties in their social contract with a ruler? 

Future leaders should be taken away from home at age 10 to begin their training, so their parents cannot influence them

Princes needs to have bad habits (vices), but they need to hide them from the people

It is best to be both feared and loved. However, it is hard for a leader to have both qualities, so it is better to be feared than loved.

Monarchy is a state of war. 

The people granted total power to a ruler so that he could maintain law and order.

Before the time of government, people were constantly at war with each other.

A prince should never take the people’s property or women. If he does, he will be hated.

A good Prince needs to know how to do wrong

God has given man reason so that they can understand their rights

Philosopher Kings should rule because it is their duty, not because they want political power.

There are two types of people; people who DO NOT want to be oppressed, and nobles who wish to oppress the people

Slavery is a form of war.

People who are ignorant will violently resist those who wish to enlighten them

Who believed in a representative democracy?
