I despised the copying of French culture in Germany and revived German folk culture by urging the preservation of distinctive German songs and sayings.

1.      I wrote the realist masterpiece War and Peace

In Lucinde, I depicted women as equal to men as well as being capable of “perfect friendship” and companionship

  In Ode on Intimations of Immortality, I wrote about the loss of inspiration and poetic vision.   I also believed that childhood was the bright period of creative imagination.

    “A spring of love gushed from my heart, and I blessed them unaware, The self-same moment I could pray; And from my neck so free The Albatross fell off, and sank like lead into the sea.

     I championed the cause of personal liberty and was respected throughout Europe as the embodiment of the French Revolution.  I wrote Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage and Don Juan and died during the Greek Revolution

     I believed that in order to live a good and happy life that was free of corruption parents needed to allow their children to grow like a plant.  Through trial and error, they would learn their way and parents would continue to nurture this knowledge by playing the role of the “gardener”.

A French realist writer, I wrote the greed of the middle classes.

“Their graves are green, they may be seen”, the little maid replied, “Twelve steps or more from my mother’s door, And they are side by side”.  My stockings there I often knit, My kerchief there I hem; And there upon the ground I sit, And sing a song to them.”

Bitter and angry at the Scientific Revolution’s downplaying of an individual’s imagination and the role of God, my paintings often times depicted the most revered figures of that time in a very negative way

      I saw that ideas developed in an evolutionary fashion.  Through thesis, antithesis, and synthesis, all periods of history have been of almost equal value.

     I wrote a poem that dealt with a curse bestowed upon a sailor and the subsequent punishments that will disappear once he truly understands the unity of and beauty of all things.

I wrote perhaps the most famous German story, "Faust", about a man who selfishly makes a deal with the devil for all knowledge only to eventually save his soul once he dedicates his life to the improvement of mankind
