When selecting sandpaper you would start with the larger number and finish with the lower number.

The grit number represents how many sand pebbles it takes to fill up a square inch.

The smaller the grit number the larger the sand pebble and the more rough or abrasive.

There is special sandpaper for wet applications, for example when you do a wet sand with oil.

If you don't push that hard when sanding you wont leave scratch marks so it doesn't really matter.

True: As the sand grit gets smaller, it leaves fewer scratches, so sanding with the wood grain is less important.

False: Always sand with the wood grain to get the best, clean, smooth results with no scratch marks in your woods final finish.

Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the tool and has no weathering along the cord.

Look at the tool to make sure there are no obvious parts that are broke or loss.

Make sure the tool looks like new, if you want to be the best you will only work with the best.

Turn the tool on and listen to the how it runs for a few seconds. If something sounds off let the teacher know.

Wearing loose clothing that can get caught in the sander.

Using a dust mask to avoid inhaling sawdust.

Ensuring the workpiece is securely clamped before sanding.

Checking the sander's power cord for damage before use.

The higher the grit number, the finer the sandpaper.

Sandpaper with a grit number of 40 is coarser than one with a grit number of 100.

Grit numbers indicate the size of the abrasive particles on the sandpaper.

All sandpapers are suitable for both dry and wet sanding applications.

Using the drill at its maximum speed for all materials.

Ensuring the drill bit is securely fastened before use.

Wearing appropriate safety gear, such as goggles.

Checking the drill's battery charge before starting.

Make sure it fits in your hand well and that you have the correct size for your grip.

Look over the tool for any cracks or missing parts.

Look at the drill chuck with your bit in it, while it is on/spinning to make sure it spins without a wobble.

Make sure you have it set on drill if you are drilling or driving if you are driving screws.

Work area: Check that the work area and walkways are free of trip or slip hazards.

Tracking: Check that the blade is tracking properly, moving evenly between the guides.

Guards: Ensure that all guards are in place, closed, and locked.

Controls: Ensure you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF starter and E-Stop.

Blade guide: Lower the blade guide and guard to their full extent.
