Modeling is a way to represent an idea, object, or system using a simplified version of the real thing. Models help engineers think about, explain, and test ideas before building the real product. When creating a model, some details are removed to focus only on the most important features. This process is called abstraction.
A model is not the real thing. Because of this, all models have limitations and cannot behave exactly like the real object. Engineers use models when the real thing is too expensive, dangerous, or not yet built.
