What is a unit rate?

A unit rate is a comparison of two different quantities where one of the quantities is expressed as a quantity of one. For example, if you drive 100 miles in 2 hours, the unit rate is 50 miles per hour.

How do you calculate the unit rate?

To calculate the unit rate, divide the total quantity by the number of units. For example, if you spend $15 on 3 books, the unit rate is $15 ÷ 3 = $5 per book.
