Quotation marks are punctuation marks used to indicate the exact words spoken or written by someone.

We use quotation marks to show direct speech, quotes, or titles of short works.

The spoken words should be enclosed in quotation marks, and punctuation marks should be placed inside or outside the quotes as needed.

The correct way is: Ben said, "I really enjoyed the movie!"

The correct way is: "Sorry, I can't help you," David said. "I have to study."

The correct way is: "You need to do your homework after you clean your room," said dad.

The correct way is: Simon exclaimed, "I can't believe I won the contest!"

A question mark goes inside the quotation marks if the quoted material is a question.

An exclamation mark goes inside the quotation marks if the quoted material is an exclamation.
