Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise)

Creates two national legislatures, one has equal representation (Senate) one has proportional representation (House of Representatives).

Three-Fifths Compromise.

Three-fifths of "other persons" (slaves) would be counted for the purposes of representation and taxing.

People did not want a strong federal government that would treat them like the British.

Nobody is above the law, not even the president.

What is the presidential system of government?

The chief executive is separate from the legislature, does not answer to the legislature.

Who has the power to regulate commerce between the states in the U.S.?

The national (federal) government.

What is the Social Contract Theory?

People give up power to the government, the government must secure individual rights or that government can be replaced.
