Each state's number of electoral votes is determined by adding the number of Senators (2) plus the number of representatives each state gets. The number of representatives is based on population, so therefore states with larger populations receive more representatives and therefore more electoral votes.

Laws put in place to protect the US during the Quasi War with France. Alien Acts - Allowed the president to imprison aliens, or send those he considered dangerous out of the country. Sedition Act - Made it a crime to speak, write, or publish “false, scandalous, and malicious” criticisms of the government. These laws were considered unfair and unconstitutional.
