• Rounding means replacing a number with an approximate value that has a shorter and simpler form.

• You use rounding when estimating.

You may be asked to round to different places.

Example of rounding to the tens

• 478 rounded to the tens is 480

• 63 rounded to the tens is 60

• 1,325 rounded to the tens is 1,330

• Notice they all end in a zero.

Examples of rounding to the hundreds

• 98 rounded to the hundreds would be 100 

• 320 rounded to the hundres would be 300

• 2,587 rounded to the hundreds would be 2,600

• Notice the last two digits are zeros.

Examples of rounding to the thousands

• 3,425 rounded to the thousands would be 3,000

• 6,892 rounded to the thoudsands would be 7,000

• 58,100 rounded to the thousands would be 58,000

• Notice tht the last three digits are zeros.
