2

Communication

THe nervous system is how you detect your enviornment, make decisions and then carry out movements

3

Central Nervous System

  • Brain

  • Spinal Cord

Slide image

4

Sensory Neuron

Receptors on senses detect stimuli
Sensory neurons pass this infomration towards the Central Nervous System

Slide image

5

Interneuron

- Found in the CNS
- Pass info from Sensory Neurons to Motor Neurons

Slide image

6

Motor Neuron

Pass information from CNS to effectors (muscles or glands)

Slide image

7

How information is passed

  • Signal travles ALONG neuron as an Electrical Impulse

Slide image

8

How information is passed

As chemicals across the synapse BETWEEN neurons

Slide image

9

Fill in the Blank

Question image

How is infromation passed bewteen neurons?

1

They talk to each other

2

As an electrical impulse

3

As a chemical messenger

4

As stimuli

15

Fill in the Blank

What do the receptors in your senses detect?

16

Multiple Select

Question image

Select ALL of the parts of the CNS?

1

The brain

2

The spine

3

The Spinal Cord

4

Sensory Neurons

17

Recap - It's SIMple!

Receptors detect stimuli
Info is passed to CNS by Sensory Neurons
The info is processed in the CNS by Inter Neurons
A signal is then sent from the CNS to muscles/glands by Motor Neurons

18

19

Reflex Arc

  • Stimuli

  • Detected by receptors

  • Info passed by Sensory neurons to spinal cord

  • Inter neurons in spinal cord pass info to motor neurons

  • Motor neurons pass info to effectors

  • A protective response takes place

Slide image

20

Reflex Arc

  • The brain is NOT involved in a reflex arc

  • THe signal only goes to and from spinal cord

  • This leads to a faster response

  • "The refelx arc protects the body from HARM"

  • Examples: Sneeze, blink, move hand when touch very hot surface

Slide image

21

Fill in the Blank

the reflex arc only invloves the spinal cord so that there is a ______ response

22

Multiple Select

Tick all of the correct statments

1

The refelx arc protects the body from danger

2

Sensory Neurons pass message to Interneurons

3

The brain sends signal to motor neurons

4

Motor neurons cause a protective response by effectors

23

Multiple Select

Select all of the examples of a reflex arc

1

Deciding to close your eyes

2

Sneezing when dust gets in nose

3

Quickly move hand when touch hot iron

4

Blink when bright light turns on

24

N5 U2 Nervous Control

The nervous system consists of central nervous system (CNS) and other nerves.
- CNS consists of brain and spinal cord.

Structure and function of parts of the brain — cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla.

Neurons are of three types: sensory, inter and motor.
Receptors detect sensory input/stimuli. Electrical impulses carry messages along neurons. Chemicals transfer these messages between neurons, at synapses.

Structure and function of reflex arc.
