Remember, there are 6 main phrases in English.  They are: who (subject), did what (predicate), when, where, why, and how (usually adverbs).

A complete thought must have at least two phrases: who and did what

  • What is the who phrase:

  • The hungry toddler ate his snack greedily. (who- The hungry toddler)

  • What is the did what phrase?

  • The Antartic is the coldest place on earth all year round. (did what- is the coldest place on earth).
