En español, nouns start with an article.

These articles are either definite or indefinite. 

Definite articles go before a specific noun. En inglés, the word the is a definite article.

• For singular nouns en español, we use el and la.

• For plural nouns en español, we use los and las.

• El and Los are both masculine.

• La and Las are both feminine. 

Indefinite articles go before a nonspecified noun. En inglés, the words a or an are indefinite articles.

• For singular nouns en español, we use un and una.

• For plural nouns en español, we use unos and unas.

• Un and Unos are both masculine.

• Una and Unas are both feminine.

Last tip: some adjectives are gender neutral. That means they only change with plural nouns.
