Superlative Adjectives

Are formed with either -issimus, -illimus, or -rrimus

Superlative is the best

the longest, the clearest, the fiercest

or

most fortunate, most intelligent, etc.

1st/2nd declension adjectives that end in -us

drop the -us and add:

-issimus (masculine)

-issima (fem)

-issimum (neuter)

Most 3rd declension adjectives

go to the genitive singular drop the -is and add:

-issimus (masculine)

-issima (fem)

-issimum (neuter)

6 -ilis adjectives

6 adjectives that end in -ilis do double l's, drop the -is and add:

-illimus (masculine)

-illiima (fem)

-illimum (neuter)

-er ending adjectives

whether 2nd declension -er like pulcher/liber or 3rd -er like acer, celer, or celeber

-rrimus (masculine)

-rrima (fem)

-rrimum (neuter)

Look for double constants

-issimus, -llimus, or

-rrimus

Superlative adjectives decline using 1st and 2nd declension endings
