Evaporation
Science lesson Grade 5
2
Open Ended
What do you know about evaporation? Explain in 3 minutes.
3
What is Evaporation?
Evaporation is the process in which a liquid gains heat and changes into water vapor.
4
Open Ended
What do you know about water vapor? Explain in 2 minutes.
5
Poll
Which one of these statements are showing the process of evaporation?
Water vapour or liquid in gaseous state is formed
Water droplet is formed
Steam or bubble in gaseous state is formed
6
Water vapor
Water vapor is liquid (or water) in gaseous state. It is colourless. We cannot see it although it's in the air.
7
Open Ended
Write in 5 minutes and explain the difference between evaporation and boiling.
8
Difference
Evaporation can take place at any temperature, while boiling can take place at its boiling point (100ºC)
Evaporation can take place at the surface of the liquid, while boiling can take place throughout the liquid.
In evaporation, no bubbles are formed (but water vapor is formed), while in boiling, bubbles are formed throughout the liquid.
The temperature of the remaining liquid drops during evaporation, while the temperature of the remaining liquid remains the same during boiling.
9
Open Ended
Write 3 process that affects the rate of evaporation.
10
3 process that affects the rate of evaporation
The temperature of the surroundings
The presence of wind
The surface area
11
Open Ended
What do you know about variable? Explain in 3 minutes.
12
What is Variable?
Variable is a condition or a factor in an experiment. It can be changed or kept the same. The variable that is changed is the one being investigated. The other variables are kept the same to make sure that a fair test has been carried out.
13
Open Ended
What do you know about solution? Explain in 60 seconds.
14
What is Solution?
A solution is a solid that can dissolves in a liquid. When the liquid has evaporated, the solid is left behind.
15
Multiple Choice
Which one of these are a solid?
Water
Water vapor
Seawater
16
Fill in the Blank
