Bones Functions

An adult skeleton has 206 bones. What is the functions of the bones? Bones protect and support your body.

Joints

• Joints connect bones and help you move.

• Knees and elbows are joints.

Cartilage

Some joints have cartilage. Cartilage is slippery. It lets joints move more easily

Ligaments

Ligaments are touch bands. They connect bones.

Tendons

tendons are like ligaments but they attach muscles to bones. Muscles shorten and lengthen to let you move.

Brain

The brain controls the body. Nerves carry messages from the brain to your body and bring messages back too.

Heart

The heart pumps blood through blood vessels. Arteries carry blood away from your heart. Veins carry blood back. Lungs help you breathe.

Esophagus

Esophagus is a tube of muscles. It squeezes food into your stomach. The stomach mixes the food. Then, it squeezes the food into your intestines.
