Religious Groups:

•A group of people who share a belief system.

•Religious groups have many things in common (God(s), prophets, prayers, history, sacred text, religious laws, holy days, etc.).

•People from different ethnic groups may share the same religion; however, they may be from different cultures.

Ethnic Groups:

•A group of people who share a common culture. These characteristics have been part of their community for generations.

•Ethnic groups can have many things in common (shared history, common ancestry, language, religion, traditions, beliefs, holidays, food, etc.).

•All of these things make up a common culture that is shared by the members of the ethnic group.

Arabs:

• Live in SW Asia and northern Africa, they are the largest ethnic group in SW Asia.

• Speak Arabic.

• Most are Muslims (follow Islam)

• Some are Christians or other religions

• Not all Arabs are Muslims, not all Muslims are Arabs...

Persians:

• Live in Iran, sometimes known as Iranians.

• Speak Farsi

• Most are Muslim

• Small group follow other religions like Judaism and Christianity

Kurds:

• Live in the mountains of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iram

• Speak Kurdish

• Most, 60%, are Muslim

• Large population of Christians and Jews as well
