What is creative industry

  • The creative industries are those activities based on creativity, individual talent and skill, and that have the potential to create jobs and wealth through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.

Contribution of the creative and sports to national development 

  • The creative industry has Jamaica with great recognition and financial gains. For example Bob Marley and dancehall . This attract tourist to our country

  • Another example is Trinidad's Carnival which draws on many cultural traditions and has given rise to Caribbean street festivals in London, New York, Toronto and elsewhere.

The creative industry (writers and authors

  • The Caribbean has been recognized for many of its writers and authors. (Claude McKay, Derek Walcott and V.S Naipaul , winners of the Nobel prize for literature.

  • Other Caribbean authors of both ficition and non-ficition have worked to document our story and develop the Caribbean tradition of story telling.

The creative industry

  • According to Minister Grange, creative industries contribute five per cent to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

  • The most detailed assessments of the contribution of the creative industry is to the GDP. According to James (2007, 2012) in relation to Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago the creative industry is accounted for an estimated US$464.7mn or 4.8% of Jamaica's GDP.
